Liaison interpreting

Waltraud Hofer

The interpreter accompanies a group or a delegation and relays what is being said between people who are speaking two different languages.

Liaison interpreting is used to facilitate communication between a small group of people who speak two different languages..

This type of interpreting is predominantly used during negotiations and discussions of various kinds (interviews, technical seminars, and the like)..

The interpreter sometimes takes on the role of a cultural mediator and facilitates a successful communication.

The interpreter stands behind the delegations or sits at the table with the negotiating parties.
